Special Program for Employment of Students |
The Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) is mandated under Republic Act No. 9547 otherwise known as “An Act To Help Deserving Students Pursue Their Education By Encouraging Their Employment During Summer vacations, Under this law, the Secretary of Labor and Employment is designated Program Director of the SPES. A. 7323 was enacted on March 30, 1992, to help deserving students/OSY pursue their education by encouraging employment during summer time. This is a program conducted every year. PESO and DOLE promote the program by encouraging employers to enroll in the program and hire student-employees for a minimum working period of 15 days and maximum of 45 days. Minimum wage will be imposed whereby employers pay 60% of the salary and DOLE the 40% counterpart. The objective of the SPES is to develop the intellectual capacities of children and harness their potentials for the country’s well being. Specifically, the Program aims to help deserving students pursue their education by providing income or augment their income through encouraging their employment during summer vacations. |
